Case Studies- Bob and Susan
Planning for Both the Expected and the Unexpected
The Situation
We had a basic level of engagement with Bob and Susan. Despite our suggestions, they had put off planning for most of their life. They were of modest means and led a modest lifestyle.
The Actions
We encouraged them to create their basic documents (wills, trusts and powers of attorney, “POA”) and a plan for both an expected retirement and an unexpected health event.
We put life insurance in place in 2013 and made sure their wills and POA’s were in place. In 2021, we made sure they had a method of guaranteeing income in retirement while still maintaining a death benefit for either their children or themselves. In the ensuing years, we continued to make that the documents and plans were up to date.
The Outcome
Everything was fine for a while, until an unexpected health event took Bob’s life in 2024. Because of the planning that was done, despite this tragedy, Susan will be able to maintain the standard of living that she had become accustomed to. She will have plenty of grieving and healing to get through, but all the tools are in place to help her live the rest of her life in relative financial comfort.
Call to Action
This is an example of how the influence of a professional relationship with an advisor doesn’t need to include the most advanced planning on behalf of wealthy clients.
We provide this type of planning and care regularly for our clients and friends. If you feel as if you could benefit from our insight, expertise and focus on service we invite you to contact us.
